Erwin compatibility issues

I am currently using Erwin 4.0 Build 1338.  I have a consultant,
working offsite, who is using Erwin 4.1.2771.  My consultant friend has
made many changes in our db model and has since sent me the .er1 file.

Every time I try to open up the file I get a windows exception dialog.
Mmopn32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are
sorry for the inconvenience.

I have asked him to save it 3.5.2 and xml format and both produce
problems on opening.
The XML formatted file pops up error messages on parsing the file.
After dismissing these dialogs for over 15 mins I gave up.  The 3.5.2
format asked me to convert it to the 4.0 format and then it throws an
exception.

I also deleted my c:\WINDOWS\erwin40.ini file to see if that would
solve the problem as I noticed it solved the problems of others, this
did not work for me.

I and my consultant friend neither have a service (maintenance)
agreement with CA to upgrade to the newest version.  So upgrading is
not a viable solution.

Has anyone seen this issue and is there a solution that does not
require me to upgrade my very expensive copy of Erwin.

Thanks in advance
Henry

Ever hear of Google? Searched on "Mmopn32.exe has encountered a problem"
Here you go. No charge for the service:

Alan,
Thank you so much for your kind words.

But Google was the very first placed I looked, and if you read the page
of the URL you submitted it lists a similar issue but does not suggest
any solutions.

I posted the message in the newsgroup because I have not found any
solutions, including searching on Google and Google groups.

Any other solutons?

Henry
