Hello,

I would like to save sentences of a text as elements of database. 255
characters (available in type char) should be not enough. And I have
decided to use either type text or tinytext or mediumtext or longtext.
However I do not know how many symbols I can use in each of these types
and as a consequence I cannot choose among these types. I found that
  ·TINYTEXT: small text,
  ·TEXT: slightly longer text,
  ·MEDIUMTEXT: medium size text,
  ·LONGTEXT: really long text.
But I do not know what it means "tinytext", or "longtext". I
found also size of these types (for example mediumtext - 2^24-1
bites). However it also does not help, because I need number of
symbols. Can anybody help me?

What do you mean by needing "number of symbols"?

What DBMS are you using?

Are you trying to store one sentence per row? Is that why you think 255
characters is not enough?

Sorry, but we cannot answer since the spirits of the crystal ball are
out on strike.

I mean I need to know how many symbols can contain value of a variable
which has been declared as tinytext (mediumtext, ...).

>What DBMS are you using?
I do not know what is "Data Base Management System". May be "MySQL" is
answer on your question?

Yes.

Read the MySQL manuals, especially string types / data types section.

Just try pointing your browser to: www.mysql.com
They've got anything you might be needing.
