Force open in layout mode?

I've created what appears to be an endless loop in a calc field and need
help.  The problem:  A calculation was created that uses data from a related
field A; Related field A is itself a calc field that depends on data from
related field B in a third table.  Somewhere in the mix I've confused FMP,
as right after creating the calc and checking it "live", I got an endless
spinning color wheel (the "wait" symbol in OSX).  Force quit won't even work
- I have to use the reset button on the computer.  Now, whenever I try to
open the db, I get that color wheel.

I unfortunately had been working on this version for a while, so my last
backup (2 days ago) would be a bit of a setback.  Is there any way to force
a database to open in layout mode so I can alter the calculations?

TIA,

Fred

Have you tried putting the two related files in another folder, or
temporarily changing their names, so that the calculated field in your
main file can't find them?

I would sa this is the best strategy as well as trying to hold down the
Command-Period or ESC key when you start up.

Thanks to all.  I moved the corrupted databases to a new folder and opened
each independently, hitting "cancel" when asked to find related files.  I
exported all the data and imported into an older clone.  I had to rebuild my
newer calculations, but that was something I was going to have to do anyway
and now I have more confidence in the table.  Again, thanks to all.

BTW, what does Cmd-period or ESC do, besides halting a startup script?

Cancels any script thats running PROVIDED that you don't have "Allow Uder
Abort" set to Off.
