I need to set up a system to read the magnetic stripe on the back of our
IDs. What plugins are available for this and can anyone suggest vendors for
the hardware reader?

Thanks.

What we use is a little bit different from the smart cards. It's an ID card
with a magnetic stripe on the back (it looks just like a credit card or ATM
card). We are looking for some sort of USB hardware reader to read the info
encoded into the magnetic stripe and the software plugin to control the
reader from within Filemaker.

Thanks.

Following up on my post ... googling for "mac magnetic stripe reader"
brings up a significant number of products.

I have used Worth Data barcode readers. They also have mag strip readers.
They were originally Worthington Data Solutions and changed their name. I
have had good experience with their products and their tech support. You can
check with them as to whether their product will work for you. And how it
would work. My barcode readers are setup as keyboard wedges (entering data
as is it came from the keyboard. I don't know if the mag stripe readers work
the same way but you can ask them. They are accessible at www.worthdata.com.

Hope this helps...
