and i cant get up.

well, i re-installed vfp7 and somehow i've gotten a setting buggered up so
the command window keeps trying to be closed.

when i 1st start vfp i get a command window.  then if i run anything.  even
a simple little .prg file, it runs, exits the program, and.....

until i hit a ctrl-f2, then i get the command window back.

anyone know what i've done?

it is using the stock foxuser file, no config.fxp.  i've looked around and
found out some neat stuff i had forgotten (or not knew) about the command
window, but nothing that is telling me how to keep it open

thanks.

Hello, jim!

Try setting the Command window to Dockable mode. You can do so by right
clicking the title bar and then click Dockable from the shortcut menu.

hi eric,

already tried that.  the dockable lets me move it within the vfp page or
outside the vfp page.  but no matter which i set it for, once i run a
program and the program ends.  all i see is the white foxpro page.

then i hit ctrl-f2 and get the command window back.

thanks.

Do you have a HIDE WINDOW "Command" command in your program?

nope.

wrote a program.

clear
? 'this is the beginning'
? 'this is the end'
wait

*** program end

if i start from a command window.  run that program.  i get a white vfp
window with the print statements and it is waiting.  i click the mouse.  one
supposes the program ends as there is no visible reaction.  hit ctrl-f2 and
the command window pops up. or if i go to the vfp menu, select 'windows'
then 'command window' i get it also.

thanks.

i've been told vpm defaults to turning the command window off and that you
manually have to turn it on with the ctrl-f2 if you want a command window
while in developer mode.

how does one turn 'off' the command window?  i thot it just went away by
itself and then came back when a program wasnt running.  guess it isnt that
simple but ive had no luck finding a vfp command to do so.

i've installed vfp several times in the past w/o seeing this behavior.  but
usually to an existing system and kind of assumed it always found its
'default' settings from whatever resource files or .config.fxp files that
were laying about.

this time i have upgraded from win2k to winxp (reformatted the drive tho)
and no old configuration stuff it laying about.

i suppose the install got corrupted and i could uninstall and reinstall.

anyone know if the vfp uninstall gets 'all' the registry stuff out or do i
need to look thru it to make sure all the bits & pieces are gone, before
reinstalling?

thanks.

Hi Jim,

When I've uninstalled and reinstalled some of my settings are still present
in the registry.

Hi Jim,

Try deleting the resource file. It will get recreated automagically.
foxuser.dbf
foxuser.fpt

To make sure you get the right one use ?SYS(2005).

Mike
