Hi,

a customer keeps getting the following error message (in German) after
having installed our FoxPro application:

"Die CD verursachte einen Fehler durch eine ungültige Seite im Modul
VFP8R.DLL bei 016f:0c018d71."

The corresponding English message should most probably be something
like:

"The CD caused an invalid page fault in VFP8R.DLL at 016f:0c018d71."

The machine runs on Win98.  The app has been tested without problems
on several different Win98-machines, so I suppose that there seems to
be a specific problem with this particular computer.

Did anyone experience similar problems with vfp8r.dll?  Are there any
hints as to how the problem may be solved?  What further information
should I ask the customer for?  Any help appreciated.

If this is the wrong group to ask questions like these, please accept
my sincere apologies.  In this case I should be grateful if someone
could point me to the right group.

Thank you very much,

Clemens Radl

That's a tough one. First, do you know if the CD refers to a Compact Disc drive, or the Change Directory?
Many page faults are due to other programs not playing "nice" with VFP. The usual suspects are Virus Checkers (and unfound viruses), Video and Printer Drivers, Screen Savers - especially Win3.x and shareware/freeware ones, and in Win98 runing with an "Active" desktop.

Perhaps you can see what other things may be different about this machine in particular. Of course replacing the VFP8R.DLL file and making sure you  are using the SP1 version should be also tried.

It refers to Compact Disc.  Sorry for not being precise about the
error message.

Thanks a lot for the hints.  There seem to be some interesting
starting points for further inqiry.

Good point!  We are certainly going to look into this.

Again, thank you for your fast and helpful response.

Clemens
