Just to add my this query.....I am thinking that VPN could be a possible
solution to really map the drive and point the DBC on the mapped drive over
Firewall and IP\share?
Any better solution?

Hello, Mike!
For security reasons, VPN is a great solution. I think that querying and
modifying data over a DSL line is still very slow. Consider other
alternatives such as:
- web services
- Terminal Server

Don't do that., it hurts !!
Any table access across a WAN (even ADSL, SDSL) is going to be slow.
What we are doing is using a Terminal Server where the users run the apps.
That is linked on a LAN (in our case 1GB over copper) to the Data server.
Then all the users access via LAN (10MB) or WAN (2MB VPN) and use the Remote
Desktop Client to connect to the server. They have an image of the server
screen on their PC, and they get LAN 1GB speeds, but only have to send the
screen redraw, keyboard and mouse commands across the network.
Works well for us.
We run Belgium, Netherlands, Germany Ireland and UK all out of one computer
room with a bank of terminal servers and data servers (per country) all over
two 2MB pipes.
We use Watchguard firewall at each end of the connection which provides the
VPN link between countries.
We also allow staff to connect to the UK VPN from home via their XDSL or
Cable connections to work from home.
I abuse the system <g> and run my desktop XP machine using Remote Desktop
from my laptop wherever a I happen to be.
I was even logging in, doing email, answering newsgroup messages, from the
Tech *Ed conference in Spain via Microsoft's wireless LAN!
