Hello, Lewis!
That's very strange. I uninstalled VFP9 beta + IS and installed VFP9 RTM +
IS RTM in that same order yesterday without any problems. Not much of a help
I guess....

Well as i had figured, after redownloading an unzipping the install files for
vfp9 again, the popup installer showed itself again, when i ran a vb6 program
that uses mscomctl.ocx... this time it found my unzipped files on its own and
configured itself and went away forever (i hope) ... for the time being it
isnt coming up anymore...
Please note that i am only posting this information because it may help
someone else...
Thanks everyone for your time

Lewis
Lewis,
Perhaps you don't understand about Beta software installations. The first rule is not to put it on a production system - unless you've made a complete backup and don't care if you lose your file changes if a restore is necessary. While beta software never tries to mess up your system, you should always be prepared to deal with that possiblity and not complain when it does.

"Perhaps you don't understand about Beta software installations"
Yes i understand clearly about beta software installations, i'm developer
myself. I understand that a beta is to be tested to find bugs and reported,
which is what im doing here , not 'complaining' as you put it.
Im fairly certain i can fix the problem by redownloading vfp9 and giving the
installer the files it wants... however, ive narrowed the problem down to
something that is happening when mscomctl.ocx is initializing... in all the
apps that cause this problem, they are using that ocx...

Rick, in this case, it's not a problem with "beta" software, but an annoying
anomoly of InstallShield. I find it to be "less than perfect" in many
installs/uninstalls on many different products.
