Hi guys,
I'm sorry if it sounds off topic but please help m, because your
replies will really effect on my decision:
I have been in touch with DB2 and its administrations tasks, and i
want to extend my abilities on administration part. meanwhile I have a
offer for being a DB2 administrator for a company. I am interested to
take the opportunity and take the risk and go for it. I know I can
improve very soon and i can learn many things in a short period of
time and i can handle it. but what do you think? do you think I can
handle this? how much knowledge a database administrator must have ?
currently I am a system engineer and a java developer and have been in
touch with Oracle and DB2 for a bout a year. I am interested to be a
DB2 Administrator and I would like to know i any of you is a DB2
Administrator and want to know how difficult this job is? should i go
for this job with this kind of knowledge? should I just start it off
as this is my favorite field? consider this that I am fast learner...
please help me Happy i really need your replies..

Please tell somemore detail about OS side.
In general, every job has its own challenges, and I dont think that
its any kinda rocket science. but i strongly recommend you not to go
for that job, first do some home work ...start learning db2 ....tell
this group what you know about db2 , utilities used by dba.... you
told that u are an system administrator ....it means u will be having
strong point about os operations and processes ...that will be a plus
point for a dba..
Give more detail about your current profile and knowledge....
LAst decision will be always yours, nobody can undersand you better
than....
In good faith
Sandy

A good way to find out if you are comfortable enough is to go to the
DB2 site for Certifications. Look at the each level in their sequence
and use the site to see the test exams and ho well you can do. This is
all free so it gives uou a good start.
Describing the job you want to go for would also help us make
recommendations.
There may be more to the job than just DB2. Will you be involved in
building the data model and other issues of that sort.
Regards, Pierre.
