Hello,
I wish to find out the restore method for database that have been
incrementally backed up and in the scenario where just the delta has
been backed up.
For example sake, let us assume the following 2 scenarios:

(1) Delta Backup of database "delta_db"
Full offline backup of database "delta_db" is taken on Dec 15 and then
offline delta backup is taken every day till Dec 19. If "delta_db"
crashes on Dec 20, what steps do I follow (pl mention relevant keywords
also) to restore this db?

(2) Incremental Backup of database "incre_db"
Full offline backup of database "incre_db" is taken on Dec 15 and then
"incre_db" is backed up incrementally Dec 19. If "incre_db" crashes on
Dec 20, what steps do I follow (pl mention relevant keywords also) to
restore this db?

Any links to redbooks / technote / relevant URL for restore method
would also be useful.

Regards............anurag

This is documented clearly in the manuals.  Search for INCREMENTAL and/
or DELTA.

In each case, mount the backup image you want to restore to which should
be the one closest to Dec. 20.  This is irrespective of the state,
incr_delta, Incr_full or full image. Write down the timestamp of the
backup image (You can get it from the recovery history file).
Issue the command
db2ckrst -d <dbname> -t yyymmmdddhhmmss -r database

The ouuput will list for you which images need to be restored and in
which sequence.

Your only Command Reference shows the command and even has examples.<
HTH,  Pierre.

Can't exactly remember now. . .  Wasn't there something new in 8.2, or
about to happen, where one can specify the restore timestamp (of the
last full backup) and db2 restores all necessary subsequent partial
backups and logs (roll-forward)?

Or was that an optimistic dream?

(Gotta quit that peyote stuff . . .)

Yes, this is the RECOVER DATABASE command, which takes the place of
RESTORE/ROLLFORWARD.

I think it's about to happen.  I don't remember from reading the what'S
new stuff about doing this automatically.
But then again, old age may be creeping on me and I could have not
noticed that function.

Given the temperature here, peyote is definetely not available but you
may remember that we do have liquid stuff that can be very potent.  Does
caribou ring any bells??
Happy New Year and may DB2 do what you want it to do as opposed to what
you tell it to do!
Regards,  Pierre.
