DB2 8.1 Work group Edition Pricing/Licensing

Looking on the IBM website the only prices they have for DB2 UDB 8.1
Workgroup Server Edition include "LIC + SW MAINT 12 MO", which I'm
assuming means "plus 12 months of software maintenance." Is that like
Microsoft's "Software Assurance" where after those 12 months I have to
choose between renewing my subscription or losing my license? Maybe it
just means I get 12 months of free support and after those 12 months
I'm just on my own. Does anyone know that? Are there options to
purchase DB2 UDB 8.1 Workgroup Server Edition /without/ the "SW MAINT
12 MO"?

Hi J,

IBM software comes default with 12 month maintenace, and is NOT
available without it. This is rather logical if you find that
installation support etc. is done in the first year.
Afyter this year normally your software provider will send you a
renewel with which you can continue your support for the next 12 months
and so on... If decide not to continue the support you are still
allowed to use the software, so the license is still yours only the
right on support wil stop. The support is normally a yearly fee of
about 18-20% of the productprice.

There is one extra feature that comes with the support, namely right on
free version upgrades (of the same product of course). So if you keep
using the software and let's say you upgrade every 5 years (which is
very conservative) tyhe support is for free !
