Folks,

I'm in the process of building a new IBM server with SuSE Linux Enterprise
Server 9 (SLES9) to run DB2 Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition.

I notice when the Linux install is done that the HOSTTYPE=x86_64.  Checking
the server spec it contains two Intel Xeon 3.2GHz processors supporting
EM64T.

I spoke to tech support and they said that I'd have to install DB2 for Intel
32-bit, as only 32 bit was supported for WSUE.

So now I go to install Fixpack 8, and it fails with -

"This fixpak cannot be installed on this Linux Architecture."

Looking at the installFixPak shell script, it has -

PLATARCH="i386"

Is it safe to change the install script to PLATARCH="x86_64" ?

Or am I doing something wrong, either in the install of SLES9 or have I got
the wrong DB2 ?

TIA

With version 8.1, WSUE was not supported on your processor.  You had to
go to ESE.

With version 8.2, WSE and WSUE were introduced to x86_64 processors, so
you should be using the x86_64 version.

I suspect a bit of miscommunication with the tech support.  Anyway, you
may be able to go grab the x86_64 (aka AMD64) fixpak and apply it over
top of what you have.  You will then also be able to take advantage of
64-bit if you wish.

Darin,

Thanks for the reply.

According to the support folks, WSUE doesn't allow you to use 64-bit.

Here's what I've done : changed the IA32 fixpack install script to search
for "compatible archs" rather than "build arch", since x86_64 is
compatible, but the build arch is i386 !!!

If this isn't correct then I can back it all out and restart the install.
Would that mean I should use the DB2 for Linux on AMD64 install disk ?
