Switch Tablespace Type During directed restore

If you have tablespaces that were  SMS tablespaces and you redirect the
containers during a restore can you make them DMS constainers?

i doubt that.

your "only" option might be to export the data/tables from the existing
tablespaces, and import/load them in new tablespaces.

Your doubt is well confirmed.
There is no ALTER capability to go from SMS to DMS or reverse.
Use db2look to extract ddl of each table  and tablespace, Export all table
data, drop tblspc, Edit output of db2look to change the tblspc. definition
and create the new tblspc. and tables, import from ...  create into ....
