Hi

Single partition DB2v8.1 FP7 on AIX 5.2.

I'm trying to determine whether we're archiving logs directly to tape
(and not to disk) using TSM. Without knowing from which sample it was
compiled, is there an easy way to find out how db2uext2 is configured
in this regard?

Many thanks.

There are at least two ways - that I can think of...

1. See if the ARCHIVE.LOG file exists - its location is dependant on
what chanes to source were made. It will show what log archiving history

2. Use dsmc (TSM utility) to see whats been copied to tape.

Thanks m. The ARCHIVE.LOG shows that log files are being archived 'to
ADSM' and that the 'Media Type' is 'ADSM'. I'm just not sure whether
this means that the logs are being archived DIRECTLY to tape or disk.

ADSM (TSM) is a whole backup/restore system unto itself. There is
usually a disk pool attached to ADSM that collects backup data and then
it rolls to tape based on a whole lot of ADSM configuration settings. If
you have questions about how your ADSM is set up - you'll need to talk
to the folks that maintain it. But, logically, your DB2 backups are
indeed going to 'tape'.

You need to talk to the folks that setup your TSM client on your AIX
system. The "exclude/include" list will show the management class your
backups are going to. That will tell you where the backups and logs are
ending up at.

Thanks m and DJ. I shall ask the TSM admin bods for their help.
