Always specify INCLUDE LOGS in your online backup. It will only include the
logs that were active during the backup, but that is all you need for point
in time recovery of an online backup.

For your explanation:
There is a possibility with online backup that a transaction mofifies data
"to be entered" in the backup as well as modifies a table/tablespace whose
image is already in the backup.
That's why you must be 1) in logretain=recovery and always provide access to
the logs that were active when backing up, to the db after restore for roll
forward.
As Mark specifies further, use the include logs option in your command to
stay on the safe side.
