Online Backup

Hai.....

                  I have a database............ i took an online
backup for tht.....
After tht mistakenly i dropped the database.......... now i dont have
the logs also....... now after i restore the database it will be in
rollforward pending state........ when i am rollforwarding it is saying
cannot rollforward........ can anyone tell me how to bring the database
back again........

Unfortunately, an online backup requires that you rollforward to at
least a point in time right after the backup.  The only other option is
to have IBM reset your log control file.  This will give you access to
the data, but the database will be unsupported after that.  You will
have to export, drop, recreate and import/LOAD your data.

Always specify INCLUDE LOGS in your online backup. It will only include the
logs that were active during the backup, but that is all you need for point
in time recovery of an online backup.

For your explanation:
There is a possibility with online backup that a transaction mofifies data
"to be entered" in the backup as well as modifies a table/tablespace whose
image is already in the backup.
That's why you must be 1) in logretain=recovery and always provide access to
the logs that were active when backing up, to the db after restore for roll
forward.
As Mark specifies further, use the include logs option in your command to
stay on the safe side.
