Hello,

publib.boulder.ibm.com has been rather unstable lately, so I figured I
should install a local copy of the documentation web pages.

I grabbed the Windows-version of the offline version of "DB2 9
Documentation" from
https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/preLogin.do?lang=en_US&source=swg-
dm-db2doce

After having downloaded ½ a gigabyte of data, it turns out that the
offline copy needs to be installed with administrator privileges. Great,
IBM...

Does anyone know of an offline version of the DB2 information center which
just consists of flat HTML pages, so that they may be browsed from the
local file system without installation? - Or do I need to "wget -r" from
publib.boulder.ibm.com?

Administrator priveleges are required to install and set up the DB2
Information Center daemon, which runs at system startup.  The
Information Center daemon is the process that allows Information
Center pages to be served up to Web browsers.

We're looking into whether we can provide a work around. Technically,
it's not difficult. It involves manually copying the help system code
and content plugins to a directory on your computer, and then running
a script to start the Information Center.  However, the files on the
Information Center installation image can only be read by the setup
program; they can't be easily extracted from the installation image.
Also,  copying files from the publib.boulder.ibm.com server won't
work, since you'd ONLY get the content plugins themselves; without the
help system code, you wouldn't be able to easily view the content.

We are looking at whether we can provide the necessary files on an FTP
site.  There are also some licensing issues relating to the
distribution of the open source elements within the help system that
we'd need to resolve before we can make this happen. We'll post an
update here as soon as we have something we can share.
