Database Discovery Question

Can anyone answer this question with certainty?

I'm playing with Discovery. I have a very simple network with two PCs
connected to a router via ethernet. The two PCs are running Windows XP (SP2)
and each have a copy of DB2 Personal Edition V8 on them.

Should Discovery enable me to see the DB2 instances or databases from the
first computer on the second computer (and vice versa)? Or would a DB2
Personal Edition PC never expect to see instances and databases under any
circumstances?

So far, I can't see any of the instances or computers from Computer A on
Computer B, despite going through the Configuration Assistant on Computer B
and trying everything I could think of in the "Add Database Wizard" to get
it to see the other PC. I've also tried using Computer A to see if it can
see instances or databases on Computer B but failed to see anything but the
instances and data on A.

I'm not sure if this is what is supposed to happen or if I have failed to
make the PCs visible to each other or have failed to make the instances and
databases suitably visible to one another.

Can anyone shed light on this for me?

DB2 Personal Edition does not support remote connectivity (i.e. you can
only connect to it from the local machine).  This means that there is no
TCP/IP listener to respond to discovery requests.

Therefore, you won't be able to see the instances using discovery.

Thank you!! I _thought_ that the PCs would be unable to see one another but
I wasn't _sure_. I couldn't find anything that said one or the other. I
wondered if they might see each other if the TCP/IP nodes were catalogued -
I could conceivably given them static IPs but, since you say that the
Personal Edition does not have a TCP/IP listener, I assume that ensures that
the PCs will not see each other even then.

I could have spent a lot of time with trial and error before finally coming
to this conclusion so I really appreciate your help with this. You have
saved me several hours that I didn't have to spare this week!

Thanks again!
