Hi,

I am trying to implement disk logging for DB logs. We are using the
ONBAR-VERITAS Netbackup Datacenter interface for our backups & restores.
Right now, we backup the logs to tape directly. But I would like to backup
the logs to disk first and  then to tape.  I am in the process of writing an
automated cron script for handling logs on disk before it fills the
file-system

Is there any standard scripts available related to this area ? If so, could
someone please forward me the link ?

Please pass on your suggestions/comments.

Regards

How about using the disk staging feature of NBU 5.0? This will do:

1. Backup your logical logs to a disk storage unit
2. Duplicate this disk storage unit image to tape
3. Expire the disk storage unit image (which will delete them also)

The disk staging feature has an option that will keep the disk storage
unit images on disk until the filesystem reaches a high water mark, so
if you need to restore the latest logs will be available on disk. In
any case, this is a lot easier option that writing your own scrips.

In lower versions of NBU you can write your own NBU scripts to do the
above. You must duplicate the image instead of backing up the disk
image, because disk image imports are not allowed. I've head of others
backing-up the disk images, manually deleting them and never expiring
them, but this causes your NBU catalog database to become huge.

Hope this information helps.

Raj,

I got your message. "You cannot import data from disk-images" is
documented on page 192 of the Veritas NetBackup 4.5 Systems
Administrator's Guide for UNIX. HTH.
