It looks like the native SQL Editor for Informix
has been discontinued.
Can anybody recommend another (possibly native)
SQL Editor for Informix? Would I have to resort
to an editor that uses ODBC or JDBC as interface.
Any recommendations for such editors?
thanks!

Server Studio for Informix
You can download it from:
www.serverstudio.com
this is a complete set of tools for Informix, on par with MS SQL
server and Oracle tools. It has a nice color-coded SQL Editor. The
Windows version of the product uses native informix ESQL connectivity
(not ODBC) Java version uses native Informix JDBC driver.
IBM distributes Server Studio JE (Java version) with all IDS servers.
Actually, Server Studio JE is 'oficial' replacement of old IECC and
Informix native SQL Editor.

Great! Thank you very much for this information!
Do you have experience using this toolset?

Some additional notes on SeverStudio:
1. It is not free. Actually, it is rather expensive.
Only VERY limited 'lite' version is available for free, that
displays annoying messages at startup.
2. Only 20% of SSJE functionality works well with ANSI database
3. It includes nice editor (with syntax highlight),
that doesn't support the mixture of DOS/UNIX EOL symbols
(very annoying, when You edit You scripts both in 'dbaccess'
on UNIX and in the ServerStudio)

As for ANSI databases, there are two big problems:
1. SPL debugger doesn't work with ANSI database at all
2. SSJE works in 'autocommit' with ANSI databases,
and it's impossible to override this behavior.
As a result of Autocommit, I can't issue
'lock table ... in exclusive mode': SSJE commits
after this statement, and lock goes away...
Because of that, most of my ETL scripts that
I develop and test using SS (and run from 'dbaccess' against
the production database) fail with 'out of locks'.
EOL bug is present in SSW32 (windows version); they've told me
that it is fixed in recent SSJE4.0-bets's.
Early SSJE4.0 beta's had this bug also.
