Hi!
In my company we have a Informix DB y Informix 4GL compiler and we are
going to change to Fourj's Genero. Have you any information about this
product? Is anybody in our situation?

Thanks, Maurizio

We changed from 4GL to 4JS BDL a few years ago.
It has been very reliable and has more functionality than classic 4GL.

We are in the "testing" phase of 4JS Genero.
It is very robust.  You can use most of your existing 4GL code and just
re-compile and it should work fine, but I would recommend sending your
4GL programmers to a Genero training class before you try to implement
it.

We're new to Genero at my company.  Way more functionality than I-4GL
and cheaper licensing too.

We're just re-compiling our legacy systems with Genero but any new
projects are being written from scratch to take full advantage of
Genero's GUI front end.

I've converted my db4glgen code generator to generate GUI 4GL for
Genero.  It's called db4jsgen, check it out at:

Informix 5.10 on some machines, 9.3 on others.  The machines are IBM
RS6000's with AIX 4.33

It's not OT - very relevant. There's quite a few users on 'ere but the best
place is the 4JS Genero mailing list when you get the product.

4JS Business Development Language (BDL) is very closely compatible with 4GL
and you need no code changes to get your programs running. There are a few
config settings to fiddle the look and feel without code changes. You can
add extra code to make it sexier with BDL

Genero is very closely compatible with 4GL and BDL, but it does have a few
differences that are aimed at allowing much better look and feel. You will
notice a few more differences with Genero, and occasionally they are
surprising, so I'd guess that a few code changes with Genero will be
beneficial just to get started.

The real advantage of Genero is that you will be able to exploit it's new
features to make the program look much nicer and also to behave better too.
Count on this taking some time, but it's time that's well worth it when you
compare it to the cost of completely redeveloping in Java or (bletch) VB.
All the 4GL business logic will continue to work as reliably as it has in
the past, unlike a rewrite in some other language where inevitably you will
introduce new bugs.

Sadly, our company is going the same route - we are in the process of
migrating from Informix to Oracle (and Linux).
I have worked on Informix for 9 years now - VERY SAD ...
