I'll be going. Sniffing around for customers ... er, I mean, interesting
technical content!
Seriously, fellow Brits, Mark Scranton is a *great* speaker, and what Andy
Legge doesn't know isn't worth knowing, so I commend this event to your
attention.

I'll try to be there. Will this also be a UK IUG meeting?
david@smooth1.co.uk - 13 May 2005 22:31 GMT
This morning I spoke to Scott O'Rourke who is on the Informix UK User
Group Steering Committtee and suggested it. I also
e-mailed Neil Truby today as well.
Update the FAQ, promote the Infobahn, start another UKIUG meeting...I'm
getting' busy!
I've also e-mailed Neil to update the home page
http://www.iiug.org/ukiug. It doesn't even mention Scott!
Anyway why hasn't this been posted to c.d.i before?
Promotion anyone? Geez we used to complain Informix didn't promote
their stuff.....
I've booked the day off work so baring accidents/illness I'll be there
and pinning Mark Scranton down about onstat stuff that is not
documented in the manuals!
How many UK Informix customers know about the User Group Meeting? Even
now 2 weeks notice is pushing it!
I'll be there with my laptop with Informix 10 for Windows and I'll
answer anyones questions about problems they are having
with IDS.
I'll been the one asking questions and not wearing a suit
so easy to spot!
Jusst grab me if you want to ask questions!
Murray Wood \(IList\) - 12 May 2005 22:42 GMT
I went to his Auckland presentation. Excellent. Well worth going to.
He will be welcome back to Auckland any time. Next time we would like him
to give the longer version of his presentation (please).

I'm not. I have to wash my one remaining hair that day.

And I'll be there. The subject matter is so crucial our company is
organising a bus-trip (well we do hope to have 6 people there!)

Just curious, you say 60 000 regression tests - can you tell me a bit
more about this, what this means ? I attended an Infobahn last year
October, and was quite impressed by all the testing they do on IDS.
Regards
Dirk

Yes. IBM is investing more resources in Informix than Informix
themselves did.
They have more developers working on Informix than Informix did!
They do 60,000 regression tests per night...more than Informix did!
They have plans up to 2010..

Martin Fuerderer - 27 May 2005 12:06 GMT
Every night, the products are built from scratch (i.e. all
objects are compiled anew, libraries built and then
binaries are linked). The resulting products are then
installed on test machines and tests are run against
the products. All this and the following is done on
different platforms as well (i.e. not just on the
development platform).
Not all tests are running on one machine in one night.
Tests are "striped" across the test machines and the
combination of test/machine is rotated.
This way still all the tests are run every night.
These tests ensure that if a new source code change
causes a problem (aka "regression") this gets caught
very early in the cycle and thus will be fixed early
(immediately) for the next night's run.
For this to work, all the tests need to be automated
so that they can be run in an automated complex test
framework. Results are kept for reference in a ...
you guessed it ... IDS database. :)
Additionally to these tests, there are other, more complex
tests plus so called stress tests that are not fully
automated but are still run at regular intervals.
I hope this satisfies your curiosity. :)

Martin

Almost ... ;-)
How many of these tests are done on Tru64 ?
