I am having difficulty with imported restore with ISM

I set the environment variables and run the ism_catalog command.  It
never completes.  I've left it for as much as 30 minutes and nothing is
happening.

sddev1:D::/home/informix>export ISM_CLIENT=north
sddev1:D::/home/informix>export ISM_SERVER=sddev1
sddev1:D::/home/informix>export ISM_DATA_VOLUME_POOL=ISMData
sddev1:D::/home/informix>export ISM_LOG_VOLUME_POOL=ISMLogs
sddev1:D::/home/informix>ism_catalog -recreate_from /ISMData/nDBlevel0
scanner: scanning file disk nth0511182200DD on /ISMData/nDBlevel0
scanner: file disk nth0511182200DD already exists in the media index
scanner: no client resource found for host `loopback',
no index entries to be saved for save set
`INFORMIX:/onlineipc_nr/rootdbs/0' (ss
id 60620)

Does anybody have any ideas on what might be wrong?

regards

Malcolm

Hi,

are you sure you need to run "ism_catalog -recreate_from ..." command ?
The manual says to run this in the following situations:
- Recovering expired save sets
- Recovering volumes that are eligible for recycling
- Recovering volumes that have been deleted from the ISM catalog

But in the following situations (the second being your scenario ?)
- The ISM catalog is corrupted
- You reinstalled the operating system and the Informix database
 server software, which includes the ISM software
I think you should run the command "ism_catalog -recover". For
this you must first have the correct volume located (using your
"Bootstrap Printout") and mounted. If you do not have the
"Bootstrap Printout", then I think you first have to run the command
"ism_catalog -find_bootstrap <device>" ...

See manual "IBM Informix Storage Manager Administrator's Guide",
especially chapter 5, section "Recovering Data After a Disaster".

Regards,
Martin
