Has anyone involved in choosing Kansas City as the venue for the IIUG
Conferene ever tried to travel there from "international"?

I'll need to leave in early March to get there on time, having first
arranged a mortgage to pay for the air-fare ... ;-)

Check the KC airport (http://www.flykci.com/).  It is 34.3 miles to the
Overland Park Marriott.  At the flykci site, you can search for a
flight.  For example, departing Los Angeles, CA on April 25, returning
May 2.  It will jump to travelocity where most flights with 1 stop can
be had for under $270.00 (US).   Nonstop can be had for around $285.00
(US).  Sorry, I know nothing of foreign exchange rates.

it should be 14 (ish) hours door to door unless you've moved house :-).
I normally fly Continental and the flights are typical $600 - it cost
me more to fly to Vienna for the European conference

Cheers
Paul

No, I haven't moved house - no money - and still live near Heathrow.

I've looked on Expedia and am offered changes in Washington, Newark,
Chicago, Atlanta or Dallas.  None looks very close to Kansas!

I think Continental fly 767s - never fly Transatlantic in a plane with only
2 engines ;-)

Neil

Chicago is the closest.

You may want to fly in and possibly switch airlines on the US leg of your trip.

Dallas is an option too... its only 30 mls or something longer to Kansas
City.
I fly there often and never had any problem. And I dont think thats because
they trust Germans a lot there ;-)

Could it be because somehow your name got put on a certain watch list? :-)
Next time just tell them that you're alergic to latex and they might skip the cavity search. :-P

Don't blame me, I think Stuart turned you in. Something about Cuban cigars? ;-)
(JUST KIDDING!)

Dallas?

Try st. louis.  St. Louis is the murder capital of
the U.S...  If you survive your connection through st.
louis think of the stories you can tell the family
when you get home...
