Anyone having any problems installing IDS 11.5?

I'm using RHEL 5 Update 1.

First if all the install script wouldn't run at all, barfing with a "Java
class error" when trying to run JRE bundled with IDS.
I got around this by extracting .jvm.bin etc from IDS v10 media over the top
of the ones supplied in the IDS 11 tar.

That seemed to fix that problem, but now I get:

...
Branding Installed Files ...
Could not access the provided custom feature list.
Installation of GLS failed.
Could not access the provided custom feature list.
Installation of Messages failed.
Could not access the provided custom feature list.
Installation of IBM Informix Internet Foundation failed.

The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed IBM Informix Dynamic
Server
Bundle. Choose Next to continue the wizard.

...

And when I try to intialise ...

[root@localhost crap]# onstat -V
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.UC1     Software Serial Number
RDS#R000000
[root@localhost crap]# oninit -iv

Invalid serial number.  Please consult the Installation Instructions.

:-(((

Any advice welcome.  I am by the way sure I have the right install media for
32-bit Linux.

cheers

Did you uncompress the TAR with user Informix?
Did you run the installer with user root?
Do you have SELinux active?

Regards.

No, I did with with root, and installed with root, as I always do.
Frankly, when I read it, I thought your suggesting of extracting the tar
archive as informix instead of root was crap.

But, in fact, it worked! ;-)

The last time I checked, there was an "su - informix ..." in the install
script. Adn this could conflict with the file permissions if you untar it with
root... But it was on version 10, so I was not sure. We should always follow
the instructions :) But then again, the last time I looked at them was for
version 10 :)

Regards.

I got around this by extracting .jvm.bin etc from IDS v10 media over the

- IDS v10 uses JRE 1.4 whereas v11 uses JRE 1.5.
- You don't want to substitute .jvm.bin file from v10.
- It basically introduces file entry mismatches and rendering the product
unusable.

Can you provide the exact error message you get when using the bundled
JRE?
Can you retry the installation (as root user) with -javahome none switch?
This forces the installer
       to use the bundle JRE.

Thanx,
Sundar
