Gee Splinter, its no wonder you can't trust IBM when they speak:

On Aug 22, you wrote:
"Being a relative newbie to this newsgroup, my impression is that Gumby
has always "had a grip"...just not on anything of substantial
substance or SIZE. (Wonder what he does with his OTHER hand and 3
fingers)...does anyone wonder if Gumball has any clients? He writes so
much out here that one would wonder.
Splintter - Informix-from-Oracle transplantee"

And now you claim:
"I still work IBM. And unlike you, I not fired from Informix and IBM.
Fellow workers in this part of country know how you left of IBM. And
they all agree it wasn't choice of you."

Unfortunately I don't know who you talked to.
And yes, leaving IBM was my choice. It just goes to show that the people you talk to don't know all the facts.
Like I said, I waited too long, I should have left right after eBU, but that's another story....

LOL.

Usually sock puppets show up when they want to direct the flow of conversation away from topic that they don't want people to talk about.

In this case, the conversation dealt with the lack of IDS sale being lead by the sales team. Last I heard, most of the deals for new customers is coming from the resellers and vars and not the sales team.

What this says is that the community is keeping the product alive. Not IBM S&D.

Oh and I almost forgot someone once said that IBM's S&D doesn't want to sell IDS because they make more money off of the Oracle Services they sell. I kid you not.

But hey! What do I know?

Why would anyone think you are kidding? Perhaps it is more palatable
when you say it then when I do.

Perhaps those same people ought to look at where the sales of new z10s
are coming from while they're doing that research.

Well, what that really means is that you need to have a staff of 3 or
more DBAs to manage a fair number of instances.
With IDS, you need only 2. Why 2? Because that's the least number of
DBAs that you can have due to "hit by truck" risks. ;-)

The comment was said by someone that many in this group know. He was
repeating a quote from an IBMer, or so he says.

Now while its true, one can make more money doing Oracle work, its
mainly because well, the quality of Oracle DBAs and developers is
staggeringly bad.

But the truth is that the statement is more of and excuse or a cop-
out. If a Jeff Boudreaux could sell Sears IDS back in the early 90s,
(Or was that Dan Scanell?) then anyone can sell IDS to customers.
(Yeah, you have to go way back to know those names and be familiar
with the office in Chicago. ;-)

But hey! What do I know? I'm just a guy who's attracting sock puppets
who's schmeke is smaller than their pinkies. ;-)

LOL,

I guess if you don't like the truth, you just try to wash it away.
