Hi

We have SCO Unix 5.0.6

And Informix 7

We would like to do a level 0 backup to the hard disk instead of tapes.

But we have this 2GB file size limit on SCO 5.0.6

Maybe it is possible to do a ontape and the pipe it to CPIO (CPIO would
allow us to split the output file)

e.g.  ontape -L0 testdb | cpio -ov -O  file1, file2

However, this is not working, because I suspect that the ontape is
writing to the tape (file) as specified in the onconfig.

I have tried to fool the system by putting cpio command in the onconfig.

Any tips, advice, tricks that can assist us to do this??

Regards

David Reed

1. SCO? Get off SCO.
2. IDS 7? Hmm, specifically IDS 7.??.???
3. Just use a load of 2 Gig Files (when request comes in to mount new tape, rename the existing TAPDEV file and touch a new one.
4. Create a PIPE and use it for TAPEDEV
5. See the IIUG Software repository.

Interesting approach, but invalid

Hello David,

There are many ways to backup a server with a 2 Gb file size limit.
Cold backups can be anthing from copy commands (cp, dd, etc.) to
compress (compress, gzip, etc.).  Hot backups can be anything from
informix backup tools (ontape, onbar) to unloads (unload SQL's,
onunload, dbexport).

Good luck!
