Hi folks,

Is it possible to replicate from one instance to another on the same
physical machine?

I created one replication server OK but I'm getting  "command failed
-- General Error (-1) (-1)" when running cdr define server on the
second replication server.

Cheers

Richard

I know there is a restriction on running HDR between instances on the
same machine (or at least used to be), but I do not believe there is
(or ever has been) a restriction on running ER between two co-hosted
instances. Are your services/SQL hosts files set up correctly and are
you trying to connect between the servers using TCP rather than SHM?

Tee hee ....

HDR can be on the same machine, just use relative as opposed to absolute paths, and start in the relevant directory which contains
the root path

However, for the above issue :

1. Version of IDS??
2. Platform (although irrelevant here really).
3. Provide your sqlhosts and also the cdr command (and also DBSERVERNAME / DBSERVERALIAS entries)

Hmmm haaa, where is my potato!

rep2    onsoctcp        paragon3        infxrep2        g=g_rep2

cdr command
cdr define server -c g_rep2 -I -S g_rep1 g_rep2

cdr list server
SERVER                 ID STATE    STATUS     QUEUE  CONNECTION
CHANGED

g_rep1                101 Active   Local           0

my config file (onconfig.rep2)
DBSERVERNAME    rep2            # Name of default database server

Try setting the env to g_rep2 and doing :

cdr define server -I -S g_rep1 g_rep2

I'm guessing that you aren't using 10xC9 as we recently spent a lot of
effort to eliminate -1 and 100 errors.  Check the online message log.
I'd also check to ensure that the sqlhost file is correct.
