Hi,

I did a full Ingres 2.6 installation a few months ago. To date all
clients have been running locally, and everything has been working fine.
I am now trying to run a client from a remote machine with the same
installation, however I have now discovered that in each installation
the GCC communications server does not start up. I have enabled debug
and run iirun iigcc, and get the following;

!seth    ::[35059        IIGCC, ffffffff]: Sat Jul 17 20:50:19 2004
E_GC280A_NTWK_INIT_FAIL Network initialization failure: all prot
!ocol opens failed.
!seth    ::[35059        IIGCC, ffffffff]: Sat Jul 17 20:50:19 2004
E_GC2005_INIT_FAIL Communication Server initialization failed.

Also when I fire up cbf there is no 'Net Server' configuration menu
option. Looking at the installation it appears as if the Net Server has
been installed, it just isn't accessible.

I would appreciate any ideas anyone might have.

Thanks and regards,
Andrew

Andrew,

I'd suggest looking at the output of the "ingprenv" command
and examing the value of your

  II_GCN<inst_code>_LCL_VNODE=mymachine

setting.  The <inst_code> is the installation code, while mymachine
is the host name.

I would guess this needs to be set on all your "duplicated installation"
machines.

But that's not all.  You also need to look at your config.dat file,
found in

  $II_SYSTEM/ingres/config/config.dat   (UNIX, Linux)
  %II_SYSTEM%\ingres\config\config.dat  (Windows)
  II_SYSTEM:[ingres.config]config.dat   (VMS)

and adjust the node name in there as well.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

thanks for the advice Leo - it turned out that my config.dat was missing all
of the information relating to the Net Server. Once I had copied this from a
working installation everything appears to be ok.

Thanks and regards,
Andrew
