Hello,
I'm trying to reinstall Ingres II 2.0 on a W2K box. We're using it to
test some mods to our ERP system.
I used the Windows Add/Remove Programs session to remove Ingres, then
manually removed the remaining directories, rebooted the box and tried
the reinstall of Ingres.
All goes well until the part after the install program starts the
service. From the log file, I get errors that show problems creating the
transaction log. Then and error with running iirundbms:server would not
start and failure to start the recovery server. The error refers to
II_SYSTEM not being set, although the beginning of the log shows that is
in place.
Also database, checkpoint, journal and dump locations not being set.
These are specifically defined in the setup procedure screens and
duplicate what we have on our production box.
Everything after that fails, of course.
I'm stuck. I went through the registry and removed all traces I could
find of the environmental variables and references to Ingres, but still
no joy.
I'd like to avoid flattening the box and doing a rebuild, but that
appears to be my only resort.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated, other than switching to a
different OS<g>.

An update.
Removing the Novell client solved part of the problem (I think it's a
security thing with Microsoft. It's not often you can positively use
security and Microsoft in the same sentence).
Transaction logs created okay, but none of the system dbs are created.
iidbdb creation returns error DM0080 Location area specified is not
valid
imadb returns US002B could not open iidbdb (naturally).

Mike,
As per our conversation, just a reminder. Use a local ingres account and not a domain one.
Cheers,
Armand
