Gang,

I don't know WHY I do these things, but I'd like to offer
to revive the info-ingres mailing list on Caribou Lake's
MailMan server.

MailMan can be set up to mirror a newsgroup.  Also, we have
MessageLabs anti-spam service, so a large part of SPAM coming
in from the E-mail side will be dropped.  I can also send mail
OUT through MessageLabs so that Spam from USENET will mostly
not get through to info-ingres.

I CANNOT prevent the SPAM on USENET.  That is beyond my power.

I don't know if I will be able to get the list members
from Tom Blythe, but I will work on that.

Please let me know if you think a new info-ingres@cariboulake.com
list would interest you.

Cheers,

Mike Leo

Hi Mike,

I suppose the list would be synced with comp.databases.ingres?! I'd
really like this mailing list / newsgroup to get more active again in
the future.

You'll see there is quite a lot of activity in CA's new web based
discussion forums on opensource.ca.com. Unfortunately, this is a pain to
use: no email notification, no threaded list, difficult to keep track of
new discussions. Any chance to get an automatic notification in
comp.database.ingres about new threads in opensource.ca.com?

Regards
Gerhard

YES.

A few months ago I asked if anyone wanted to close down info-ingres, because
most of the spam on the group (at the time) seemed to be leaking from it.  I
was howled down at the time, and now I know why.

I will second Gerhard: the CA forums are nice to see, especially all the
activity on them, but they are a real drag to use.  I hate the format and
delivery mechanism.  In fact it is only because I recently got DSL that I
can use them at all, and I am sure there are lots of people who still use
ISDN or even analogue connections.

Yes, please, if you have the time and energy and enthusiasm, we'd all love
to see info-ingres reinstated.
