Subject: MWP - Windows/Ingres Question
Hi Paul
We have a client who has a 5-User Windows Licence on the Server
containing our database. (Not sure why, but thats what they tell me.)
When we access the server via our node connection, is that considered as
a User on the server? Ie. Can we have more than 5-concurrent MWP users?
Thanks
Darren

I'm assuming he means a CAL (Client Access License) here.

I'm not sure what WMP means in this context. I only know WMP as
Windows Media Player.
However, in the general case, you need a CAL for each user that will
access pretty much anything on that server. Technically it will be
possible to connect with more than 5 concurrent users. Whether you're
allowed to do so legally is not something I can answer with this
little information, but you can safely assume the answer is "no". And
that's disregarding the fact that CALs are usually per named-user.
Welcome to the bizarro world of windows licensing.
I know there's a web-edition of windows server that has more
reasonable licensing terms (within the realm of windows licensing),
but you're not allowed to run just anything on it. You'll have to look
into that. But you really want to be talking to a MS reseller about
stuff like this.

Sorry the mail wasn't clear.
Openroad application MWP = MyWorkPlace running on Windows client.
Connects via Ingres Net to Ingres Database running on Windows Server.
If there are 100 connections from 50 PCs does this mean 50 CALS are
required?
