Hi Everyone,

I've just become aware that all my client PC's are running an IngresII2.6
client (at best) and really will need to be upgraded to use Ingres2006
features such as the wide characters for databases that are unicode
enabled or just getting VBDA to see all the catalogs and offer all the
features it can.

In the old days we got a CD and marched it around to those who
needed it and did an upgrade.

How do we do it now? What with?

I'm hoping this is a really stupid question!

Gidday Mate!!!
I'm pretty sure you will find the answer is a scripted install.

The short story is...  (mostly automatic)
Run a batch file remove all traces of ingres/openroad from the hdd.
Force reboot.
Kick off an ingres net, ingres DB or openroad installation script when
the machine comes up.
Generate required vnodes.
Create and populate your own db (local)
Run your app, sign in, take a screen shot, copy of running processes,
check versions and errlogs.
Email the picture to your grandma.

Paul

Hi Martin,

do your client PCs use OpenRoad runtime? If yes, which version?

If they do not, then just wipe your old %II_SYSTEM% and do an
answer-file based installation. Vnode entries can be automated with
neutil's non-interactive mode.

Regards
Gerhard
