I have an Ingres 2.6 database I need to backup to tape.

Which locations to I need to copy to tape to ensure that the database
can be recovered?

Do I only need to backup the checkpoint location(s)? Is there any need
(or indeed use) for a daily backup of the database location(s)?

Many Thanks,

Hi Adrian,

It looks like you are trying to do an OS backup rather than an ingres
checkpoint to tape.

You only need to include the areas under II_CHECKPOINT, II_JOURNAL and
II_DUMP.

There is no need (or use) in backing up II_DATABASE.

You have to:

1.- checkpoint your database(s) (to tape or disk) (include iidbdb)
  * If you checkpoint to disk, make sure to copy to tape
         II_CHCKPOINT/ingres/ckp/default/<your database>
         II_DUMP/ingres/dmp/default/<your database>
         II_JOURNAL/ingres/jnl/default/<your database>
  * If you checkpoint to tape, make sure to copy to tape
         II_DUMP/ingres/dmp/default/<your database>
         II_JOURNAL/ingres/jnl/default/<your database>
2.- Copy $II_SYSTEM/ingres/files
3.- Copy the result of the next (one for each database, included iidbdb)
infodb <your database> > info_your_database.txt
4.- Copy the result of the next: ingprenv > ingprenv.txt

I think this is all you need
Please don't forget to checkpoint your iidbdb, there is information
about users, groups, roles and databases

Regards

Oscar
