Hello All,

I am new to Oracle - I may be asking a very dumb question - Can I
create the recovery catalog database on the same machine as I am
running the target database on Oracle 9i? I want practise some RMAN
commands on a PC using Recovery Catalog.

Regards,
Bruce.

Hi,
Why dont you read the Oracle manuals first? You ll get all answers to
such elementary questions by reading the manuals. And if you dont
understand something, it ll be better to put your queries here. This
group is for serious issues.

And please dont ask about where to find the manuals....

Wishing you all the best.....

Regards
Jackal

Yes you can.  However, you can run rman without a recovery catalog.

I know in the past it was a lot easier to create multiple databases on
the same platform under UNIX or VMS than on Windows but I would think
that the DBCA utility would be able to do this without too much
trouble.

Can and should are too entirely different questions.

1. Yes you can.
2. No you should not.
3. And as pointed out a catalog is not required as Oracle will
use the control file to store the information. See #2.
