You should have stopped right here and read the installation guide.
Not going to happen, if at all, in a supported fashion. Get yourself
a "real" operating system. I'd recommend Oracle Linux.

That would be a local connection - as you have no instance locally,
the

is only natural.

Now - that's a remote connection. Hopefully, you have
an Oracle client install, that has a tnsnames.ora file,
containing this "skier3" as an alias, that points
to your linux machine.

Hmmm - looks like you have an odd environment setting;
perhaps language or character set?

Yesterday a found an Oracle Client installation for windows Vista. I can now
connect to the database with sqlplus.
File: 10203_client_vista.zip
I can only assume that anything before Windows vista won't work.
Also available is Oracle Data Access Components ODAC which I also installed
into the Oracle client for windows vista installation (for office 2007
installations), according to instructions.
ODAC1020221.exe
But I still can't use Oracle Forms Developer. There doesn't appear to be
anything available yet.
Cheers,

As soon as Vista is available, I'd say...

Hi Mr BUSS,
It has been a long time that you have entered this post but still I'll try.
I do have a Vista Home Premium desktop PC, I think I use the same PATCH(Feb
2007 10.2.0.3).
But I get ORA-12154 error from SQL plus.
I read, other people had also achieved to connect to Oracle Server from Vista
Home Premium.
I start the SETUP.EXE as an administrator and I checked in the Properties,
second tab, where you say -sorry I cant remember the exact term- consider
similar to XP SP2. My OS is in Turkish?!?!?
Could you please give me any clues about why not I can be successful?
Kind regards,
