At the end of a paradox session

Hello !

Despite the fact am a very poor english speaker let me ask a question...
When I click to close a paradox session I receive an error message which
tell me:

The file xxxxxxxxx cannot be created.

xxxxx is the name of my table.

Helas the message cannot entirely be read because the windows is too smal, I
tried to change the resolution of the PC screen without result.

Am working with Paradox for windows 1.0 !!! Hi ! Some application in PAL
where constructed and work very good since more than 15 years ago with W85,
W ME, W XP... no problems at all except this annoying msg.
This msg don't appear with all tables, if it appear it is repetitive, if not
it is never.

It seems to be the file which memorise the contexte... right ?
It can be that some applications where moved from a PC to another PC with
windows utilities instead of the "copy" commande of Paradox ...
What to do to avoid this message ?
Please help me to understand and make the things right.

Hi

What is exactly (with the extension) the name of the file xxxxxxx ?

BTW you should _really_ upgrade to, at least, version 5.0 which will offer you

- better memory management (version 1 was... problematic IIRC)
- long integer and autoincrement
- table alias in the data model
(you can have the same table more than once in the data model !)
- you can drive the menu with OPAL in the reports
(very important to not let your user have full access to paradox !)
- form's field model
(you can use models on form like on the table)
- a runtime is available to distribute/protect your application
- an improved BDE (borland database engine)

Version 5.0 works like a charm in VISTA :-)

??????are some caracters which are outside of the "error" windows thus not
readable.

Je vous écris de Montigny-le-Tilleul près de la frontière franco-belge.
Je pense possèder la version 5.0 Fr mais non documentée, par contre mon
vieux 1.0 est complètement documenté.
J'ai toujours crains que l'application soit à rebidouiller si je change de
version, il a déjà fallut faire cela en passant de Paradox 4.5 à Paradox
pour Windows 1.0.

Je suis encore sous XP SP2, tout va bien, et quand tout va bien je n'ai pas
beaucoup l'envie de changer quoi que ce soit, j'ai peut-être tort...
C'est une assez grosse application en PAL pour la gestion d'une ASBL (vous
dites loi 1901 en France) et cette asbl a presque 30 ans, l'application date
d'une quinzaine d'années et son debug ne fut pas une mince affaire.

Just a few words in english to explain that I'll answer in french since it will
be easier for us !
If anybody want an explanation in english please just ask.

Vous disiez que le message contenait le nom de la table ?
Vous n'avez pas une table qui s'appelle "pdoxwin" si ?
Si c'est le cas ce n'est pas une bonne idée (conflit possible avec le programme
et ses fichiers de configuration) et il faudrait essayer de renommer la table.

L'exécutable Paradox s'appelle normalement pdoxwin.exe. Il est ,tout au moins en
version 5, situé directement dans le dossier c:\pdoxwin et non dans des sous
répertoires.

Qu'y a-t-il comme fichier pdoxwin.* dans le dossier mmcota ?
Avez-vous les droits en création de fichier sur ce répertoire ?
(essayez de créer un fichier toto.txt pour vérifier ce point)

En version 5 le fichier qui conserve le contexte à la sortie de Paradox
s'appelle pdoxwork.ini

Puisque vous supposez que le souci est lié à certaines tables, vous pourriez
tenter une réparation de ces tables (bien qu'en version 1.0 je ne suis pas très
confiant sur la réparation, vous pourriez tester une copie de vos tables avec
Paradox 5.0 (Menu outils / utilitaires / Récupération de table en demandant
"Vérifier l'intégrité"

Enfin concernant une mise à jour en version 5.0 depuis la version 1.0 cela
devrait se faire sans aucun souci, rien à voir avec un passage de la version 4.5
DOS (je suppose que vous parliez de la version DOS et non 4.5 windows ?) à
Paradox pour windows 1.0.

Les tables peuvent rester telles que il vous faut simplement enregistrer vos
fiches et vos état dans la version 5. La encore faites un test sur des copies !
Quant à la document l'aide en ligne de la version 5.0 est vraiment bien faite et
surtout vous pouvez compter sur une communauté très compétente et très à
l'écoute donc n'hésitez pas à poser toutes vos questions.

Je vous signale, si cela peut vous être utile , un tutorial que j'ai écrit sur
le développement d'une application avec Paradox pour windows, c'est ici :
