I am told by my coworkers that Informix does not allow one to create permanent tables on the fly by using code as in my subject, only in to temp tables. The only way to put data in to permanent tables is to create a table first, and then INSERT INTO.

As I've indicated to Art, I've tried with no success to compile utils2_ak or components thereof on our system; we're HP-UX11i, c4gl not esql, and non-GNU. These are non-changeable variables; a corporate matter I have no control over.
