So, your user ing2 is defined as an OS user on both A and B.
On A, where the Ingres DBMS resides, you created the Ingres ing2 account using VDBA. I suspect that either case (meaning check or uncheck the external password) the user ing2 ...

I'm ORACLE/SYBASE DBA, I have to backup, this friday, all ingres databases
for my new client, urgently cause of changing geografic location. I gess
that the command ckpdb do that? My problem is that I don't know how many
databases are installed on his servers and how to know that... ...
