I am not sure how to answer this question: "What happens if you run a DDL, say alter table, on a table currently being accessed by a long-running query?" Would the query fail?

with update global indexes. We did this on 2 partitions of different tables today and timings were very different.One was 10 minutes and other was 100 minutes. Number of rows are similar but the table that took longer had one more index.

I have enabled directio and async io on my redhat box. Async io is verified by running the classical cat /etc/proc/slabinfo|grep kio How do i verify direct io is being used by oracle.

I know it is possible to encrypt a package body, or table columns. But my concern is, can you hide the source code of a view from all grantees in a similar way ? I mean, using same tools, or a different workaround must be taken ?

I am trying to Export and Import user data with multiple table spaces. That is, Exporting data based on a user who uses multiple tablespaces then Importing data to a different user with a single tablespace (to a different tablespace of course.)
