Could anyone suggest the minimum installation of an oracle product on a client pc so that i may run an oracle form connecting to a database on the server, but keeping the client as thin and cheap as possible? Many thanks in advance

Whenever I use a DISTINCT in my query, I see the "SORT UNIQUE" getting added to the execution plan. "SORT UNIQUE" is increasing the cost of the query by a greater factor. Any help in reducing the cost in using DISTINCT would be of much help.

We currently have 10.1.0.4 (Enterprise) installed on Solaris SPARC (64-bit). I have started to look into upgrading to 10.2. Can I patch the existing 10.1.0.4? Or do I need to do a brand new install of 10.2 in another Oracle home?
