I've been reading about the difference between connections and sessions
on Kyte's site and this group.  It's a bit rough for me, so I got a few
questions.  I'm also having a hard time figuring out how it could be
applied to auditing when the OS user uses an app to do database work,

I'm having trouble believing this is true.
With an export or import, I can use a parfile and hide my password
either with the parfile or with a shell re-direct like
echo password | exp userid=system  or something.

We have 3-node Oracle 9.2.0.5 RAC database on AIX 5.2.
We're seeing enqueue wait events in our database.  Here is a Statspack
output (elapsed time of about 5 minutes):

An old 8.1 server crashed and no backup was avaialble.
I managed to salvage from the hard disk the oracle directories,
