>From day one we have been using BMC's SQL_Backtrack product to manage
our database backups.  We've never used rman, but today I started
playing around with it, and got quite a shock.  Connected to a target

My workplace is having a debate on what to use for a file system/disk
management perspective for RAC.  I would like to know what others have
built their RAC clusters on, are more people using ASM or GPFS.  I'm
not a DBA, but do support Unix and lean towards using ASM.  I've read

I have Oracle 8i DB server running on RH AS 2.1.
Here is my problem;
When I try to connect to the DB from an external system (using jdbc
thin driver) sometimes i get "network adapter could not establish the

How can I identify these bad sqls running over the db link?

name - but where is does it get the name from. The reason I ask is that

gzip -c 'list of DB files to be zipped' > cb_dbname_date.gz
Now when I try to refresh from cold backup, I use this syntax:

I had been campus recruited by IBM Global Services and after only one
month training I am working as a DB2 DBA on client side for past two
months.

refers to a directory $ORACLE_HOME/network/snmp. This directory does
not exist on my server.

I would like to be able to go to a specific row in a ResultSet and get
the data from that row. Is that at all possible? If not, should i be

We are considering migrating our existing web applications development
to J2EE 1.4 from the current 1.3. and we use Oracle application sever.
Inevitably we'll also upgrade the app server from 9iAS(1.3 certified)
to 10gAS( 1.4 certified ).  My question is, does the Oracle 10g app
