I am fresh out of school a year now, and just starting another position
in my company.  In school (not the real world) we were given a rule of
thumb that if you needed a value more then twice in a method or
procedure, calculate it and store it in a temp variable instead of

work for a consulting company that is trying to help a company work
on there syteline program. I am fairly new to progress and really new
to syteline. The problem they are having is when they add a new item
to the item maintenance screen. They get this error :

When I want to make a select for example
select ID, UserLogin from Benutzer
then I have to write the queryString like this:

A few weeks ago I was a newbie at performance tuning progress.  After
lots of reading and with your guidance, I've been able to improve the

I made some changes to the progress database to improve performance.  It
took me a while to do the research for the semaphores on the Sun website
as well as Oracle's.  (I have access to metalink).
The sun site wasn't too much help, but the Oracle site really helped a lot!
