Last week when the XP server was not running, I issued the isql
command xp_cmdshell "who" to get the XP server started and this worked
fine.
Yesterday, when I tried this, the command hung for a while and then

Our ID server crashed without a backup. It's gone.
At the same time we have a number of 24/7 live rep.servers using that
server as an ID, and they have been running live for some time without
an ID server.
